Facilitation Coaching

Zoom Facilitation Jedi Training

In what seems like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, we worked and created with people face-to-face. The pandemic invaded, and suddenly, we needed to pivot on a dime from being in the same room to being on the same Zoom. Yet Zoom meetings and workshops can actually be invigorating and relaxing, inclusive and effective when they’re well-planned and facilitated. In an age when many of us are weary of staring at boxes of colleagues, collaborators, and peers on our screens, we can use Zoom – or any video-conference platform – to build excitement, teamwork, and creativity.

That’s why I created the Zoom Facilitation Jedi Training to help you become a facilitation Jedi. Find the force within you to exude calm, strength, and clarity. Learn facilitation and Zoom tips and innovations for inspiring and effective meetings or workshops. In our three 75-minute sessions (done over Zoom), we’ll study, discuss, and role-play best practices for effective, welcoming, and timely video-conferencing with your team, group, or business.

Without The Jedi, There Can Be No Balance In The Force. - Lor San Tekka, The Force Awakens

  • Session 1: Zoom Pivoting: What works well in person, when you can read people’s moods and body language, can be easily lost over Zoom, especially if your group tends to turn off cameras or multi-task. Explore how to adjust meeting design, ground rules, and meeting or workshop culture to Zoom for a greater sense of teamwork, collaborative spirit, and accomplishment.
  • Session 2: Action Orientation: One of the best ways to mitigate Zoom fatigue is to have shorter, purpose-driven meetings in which everyone’s contribution is valued. This necessitates using the precious screen time of the meeting for focused discussion and action. We'll look at how to invite vibrant participation, disseminate information without flooding people, and follow up with systems tailored to your business or group.
  • Session 3: The Human Touch: Working remotely can diminish casual collaborative conversations, seed personal isolation, and fuel interpersonal conflicts. We’ll investigate how to build in more human connection, including effective ways to engage with conflict and challenging situations and keep the group traveling speedily on its mission.

Zoom Facilitation Jedi Training: Thursdays, July 23, July 30, and Aug. 6 from 3:30-4:45 p.m. CST/ 4:30-5:45 EST/ 2:30-3:45 MST/ 1:30-2:45 PST. All three sessions plus a handout of ample resources, including tips, tricks, and best practices for video-conferencing: $195 if registered by July 9th/ $215 after July 9th. Space limited.

Facilitation Coaching

It’s challenging enough to facilitate effective decision-making, collaboration, and team-building face-to-face meetings, but in a pandemic, we need video-conference super powers. Even if we’re pretty good at guiding teams and groups to spark the most creative ideas and smartest approaches, we can often often benefit from learning new approaches to connect people across distances.

That’s why I’m offering specialized facilitation coaching, including Zoom Facilitation Jedi Training and facilitation coaching for individuals and teams.

My Facilitation Experience

Some of us are born facilitators, unable to sit on our hands when we see how much good facilitation can save the day. I’ve been drawn to organizational development at large and group process in particular since I started facilitating meetings with my temple youth group as a teen. Since then, I’ve facilitated hundreds of meetings and workshops, studied with great teachers and programs, and trained many facilitators extensively through Goddard College's Transformative Language Arts concentration and businesses and organizations trainings. I regularly teach facilitation classes with Joy Roulier Sawyer.
